A R I A R T

I craft light sculptures that transform interiors with a unique character.

by Ariel Szubert

Steel and paper – rawness and delicacy in harmony.

In my designs, I combine a steel frame with multiple layers of paper, applied piece by piece, creating a surprisingly durable surface through which light filters in a distinctive way.

They are created through a time-consuming process of layering thin pieces of paper onto a steel frame. Layer by layer, the paper forms an irregular, raw structure – full of folds, creases, and natural wear. This makes each sculpture unique, with light filtering through its organic shapes in an unpredictable way, creating a remarkable atmosphere. It is a craft that blends unconventional form with functionality. The surface may appear delicate, but thanks to the multiple layers and water-based adhesive, it is surprisingly durable and resistant to everyday use.

These are compositions created from hand-bent and welded steel rods, scrap metal, and natural materials such as stabilized moss or dried flowers encased in resin. Each piece is a harmonious blend of the rawness of metal and the delicacy of nature. The stabilized plants require no maintenance – the glycerin solution that fills them (instead of water) preserves them, ensuring they retain their appearance for many years.
